I think the hotel you are referring to is Hotel Madrid Centro. It's a 10 min walk from Plaza Mayor which is very close to Sol, maybe another 3-5 mins walk from Plaza Mayor to Sol. My memory is a little fuzzy.

Mmhh, no, not really. It's a good location for business and going shopping to posh and expensive stores along Serrano, Velazquez, Goya. But it's not in the city centre. I would say it's a about 40 min to Cibeles and Retiro Park and another 15 min to Sol and Plaza Mayor. Walking distance.
Nice area though.

Have you got a map?
Most hotels have maps on their websites.
Did they give you a Metro stop? Is it Sol or Gran Vía?
You can search out a mapquest or googlemaps map of the city and plot the location.
I'm not sure if this link will give you what I have when I look at it. Sometimes it just takes you to the main page...but put the address into the search WITHIN googlemaps, and it should show you...it's about a two mile walk to Plaza de Cíbeles, at the end of Gran Vía. http://maps.google.com/
Nope...that link takes you to the main page...put Madrid, Spain into the search at the top of that page, then click on the pin (A) and a balloon pops up that says get directions...click, then put in the address.
(and, no. I wouldn't call that close, unless the hotel has something that you REALLY like about it).
Give me a name or a link to the hotel, and I'll tell you if it is really worth it.
Okay...I think I found it eewww! WAY too modern!
Here...this place...a little more expensive...ON GranVía, WAAAY more Character! Trust me, you'll like it better! http://www.venere.com/best-western/madri…
